Overview

Chassis #008 of the Acura ARX-05 DPi represents one of the most successful and historically significant prototypes of the modern IMSA era. Developed jointly by Honda Performance Development and ORECA, the ARX-05 was based on the highly successful Oreca 07 LMP2 chassis and powered by Acura’s twin-turbocharged AR35TT 3.5-liter V6 engine, forming one of the most competitive Daytona Prototype International packages ever built.

This particular chassis achieved the pinnacle of North American endurance racing success in 2022, capturing:

  • Overall victory – Rolex 24 at Daytona

  • Overall victory – Petit Le Mans

  • IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – Overall Champion

In addition to its championship-winning season, the chassis also competed in 2021, recording multiple podium finishes before returning in 2022 to claim one of the most prestigious titles in sports car racing.

Today, this historically significant prototype continues its competitive life with RBN Motorsports, where it is actively campaigned in HSR historic racing events, preserving the legacy of the final and most advanced era of IMSA’s Daytona Prototype International class.

The 2022 Championship Season

The 2022 IMSA season marked the final year of the DPi category, making the championship especially significant in prototype racing history.

Driving for Meyer Shank Racing, the ARX-05 claimed overall victory in the 60th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, one of the most prestigious endurance races in the world. The car completed 24 hours and more than 760 laps of competition, with drivers Hélio Castroneves, Tom Blomqvist, Oliver Jarvis, and Simon Pagenaud securing the win after a dramatic closing stint.

The team’s momentum continued throughout the season, culminating in a victory at the Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, securing the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and cementing the ARX-05’s legacy as one of the defining prototypes of the modern IMSA era.

Historical Significance

Chassis #008 occupies a unique position in endurance racing history:

  • Rolex 24 at Daytona overall winner

  • Petit Le Mans overall winner

  • IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship winner

  • Competed during the final championship season of the DPi era

Few modern prototypes achieve the rare “triple crown” combination of Daytona victory, Petit Le Mans victory, and overall championship success in the same season, making this chassis one of the most accomplished ARX-05s built.

Current Life with RBN Motorsports

Today, this championship-winning prototype continues to be preserved and celebrated by RBN Motorsports, where it is actively campaigned in HSR historic racing events.

Rather than retiring to static display, chassis #008 continues to be driven and showcased in competition, allowing fans and collectors to experience one of the most successful Daytona Prototype International cars of its era exactly as it was intended—at speed on the racetrack.

Through its continued participation in historic racing, the car serves as a living piece of IMSA history, representing the culmination of Acura’s highly successful ARX-05 program.
